UPRIGHT | URBAN ART IN DE HEUVEL

Winkelcentrum De Heuvel en urban platform EMOVES boden een unieke kans voor vier urban kunstenaars om vier grote pilaren in het Eindhovense winkelcentrum onder handen te nemen. De opdracht? Iets te maken waar de maker voor de volle 100% achter staat. We hebben uiteindelijk 198 aanmeldingen binnen gekregen vanuit het hele land en de resultaten zijn nu te zien in De Heuvel!

Door de hoeveelheid inzendingen was het voor de jury mogelijk om een mooie diverse selectie te maken. Zo zie je in het abstracte en organische werk van Andre HZS mooi de invloeden van graffiti. Nina Valkhoff schildert prachtige realistische dieren en planten en maakt over de hele wereld enorme muurschilderingen. En de Eindhovense Kid Kura neemt met zijn illustratieve en kleurrijke stijl een pilaar over. Maar er wordt ook ruimte gegeven aan talent. De jury zag veel potentie en vooral plezier in het werk van de 21-jarige Zena-Rae.

Elke kunstenaar krijgt volledige vrijheid en wordt netjes volgens de fair practice code betaald. Vandaar de naam Upright. We streven ernaar dat ook makers in de urban culture serieus behandeld worden en we willen ze ruimte bieden om hun eigen verhaal te vertellen.

Het kunstwerken werden vrijdag 3 maart feestelijk geopend samen met de wethouder van Cultuur Saskia Lammers. Het project is een samenwerking tussen winkelcentrum De Heuvel en het urban platform EMOVES en is opgezet door Jasper van Es. Volg ons op @stichtingurbaneindhoven.nl en @heuveleindhoven

De Heuvel shopping center and urban platform EMOVES offered a unique opportunity for four urban artists to take over four major pillars in the shopping centre. The assignment? To make something that the maker stands behind for the full 100%. We eventually received 198 registrations from all over the country and the results can now be seen in De Heuvel!

Due to the amount of entries, it was possible for the jury to make a nice diverse selection. You can clearly see the influences of graffiti in the abstract and organic work of Andre HZS. Nina Valkhoff paints beautiful realistic animals and plants and makes huge murals all over the world. And Kid Kura from Eindhoven takes over a pillar with his illustrative and colorful style. But one column is also given to talent. The jury saw a lot of potential and especially pleasure in the work of 21-year-old Zena-Rae.

Each artist is given complete freedom and is paid in accordance with the fair practice code. Hence the name Upright. We strive for makers in urban culture to be treated seriously and we want to give them space to tell their own story.
